PROGRAM :: PERGO FLOORING
Pergo
is a giant name in the laminate
flooring industry - indeed the company claims
to be the inventors of laminated
floors. The floors are designed with the DIY enthusiast
in mind and the average competent enthusiast should be able
to carry out an installation within a period of 24 hours.
One of the beauties of a Pergo
floor is that it can be laid over an existing floor,
whether it be concrete, ceramic, vinyl, tiles or real wood,
the only proviso being that the base should be level to
within 3mm and clean. Before laying the Pergo
flooring lay a 0.2mm polythene sheet over the entire
floor.
Installation of the flooring is extremely easy -
take the first planks from the pack and lay them along the
long side of the room you are to cover - the tongue
on the first planks will have to be cut off before laying
and you should allow a 5mm gap between planks and all walls
(this is to allow for expansion during local climate changes).
After the first planks are down the second row of planks
can be laid by inserted the tongue of the second into the
slot of the first and so on. The final row of laminate needs
to be cut to allow a 5mm gap between it and the wall. Pergo
supply attractive mouldings to hide the 5mm gap between
the finished laminated
flooring and the walls. When finished you should have
a floor cover that looks just like the real thing.
