Bayport’s market is Africa

Bayport’s market is Africa and we have 235 branches spread through Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Ghana and South Africa, in addition to several Bayport Financial Services mobile units. Our company was founded in 2002 and is domiciled on the island of Mauritius.

Bayport’s market is not an easy one, causing many a financial services company to shy away from it, reasoning that a viable unsecured credit business model would be impossible on the continent. Bayport Financial Services has mitigated the risks and had proved that we can offer responsible, hassle-free, unsecured credit to Africans. We call our unique approach, tailor-made for Africa, “The Bayport Way”.

Bayport’s distribution network

Bayport’s distribution network encompasses 235 branches over five African countries and numerous mobile units, visiting people where they live in the countryside. Bayport Financial Services is committed to bring their products to all people, irrespective of how far they live from the large cities where our branches are.

Bayport’s distribution network is geared for Africa, giving us a useful advantage over competitors who have not invested as heavily in infrastructure. Bayport Financial Services’ mobile units travel with generators, laptops and printers and can do loan origination on the spot, anywhere “off the grid”, rendering a valuable service to far-off, “unbanked” Africans.

Bayport’s mobile units

Bayport Financial Services serve clients in Africa, an immature financial market. This has called for a different approach towards infrastructure and distribution network – Bayport’s mobile units are an example of this. These mobile units are fully self-sufficient (equipped with power generators, laptops and printers) to enable quick and easy loan origination “off the grid” where many of our clients live.

Bayport’s mobile units sometimes have to travel hundreds of kilometres to reach clients who are far from the closest city or Bayport branch. Many civil servants like teachers live in the countryside and cannot afford to travel to us. Bayport Financial Services can reach thousands of “unbanked” Africans this way.

Bayport’s coverage

Bayport Financial Services has realised long ago that an expansive distribution network would be needed if we were to successfully render financial services in Africa. Indeed, Bayport’s coverage extends to 235 physical branches and many mobile units over five African countries: South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Tanzania.

Bayport’s coverage shows our belief that one should invest in infrastructure in Africa, which is a relatively immature financial market. Roughly 20 percent of Bayport clients are civil servants and many of them live far from a Bayport Financial Services branch, necessitating mobile units to reach these clients. These mobile units are self-sufficient and travel vast distances to reach clients.

Bayport’s loans

Bayport’s loans have changed the African credit market. Starting in 2002 in Tanzania, Bayport Financial Services has financially empowered over 150 000 Africans through hassle-free access to affordable, unsecured credit. Bayport loans are disbursed through many mobile units to clients that live far from a Bayport branch and through a branch network of 235 branches in five countries.

Bayport’s loans and financial products are available in South Africa, Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Loans vary according to the amount and the need; long-term loans can be paid back over up to sixty months. Bayport Financial Services has lent money to people for educational loans, home improvements, agriculture and emergencies, among others.
